This is the sixth in a series of indexes of all infantry regiments and independent infantry battalions of the US Army during WWII. Others will be published as they are completed.

This work includes all decorations cited in the general orders of the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Please note that many decorations presented to members of the 513th Parachute Infantry may have been cited in general orders of other commands. Most awards of the Purple Heart Medal were cited in the general orders of the hospitals that the men were evacuated to, and are not included in the work. It appears that the 513th Parachute Infantry must have cited awards of the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Combat Medic Badge in its special orders, as there were none cited in the general order of this regiment nor is there any substantial number of these awards citied in the 17th Airborne Division’s General Orders.

After VE-Day many high point troopers of the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division and the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment were assigned to the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 17th Airborne Division to return to the United States for discharge. Because of this you will find men from those commands also cited in the general orders of the 513th Parachute Infantry.

There are two General Order #17 in this series, which must have never been noticed as no attempts were made to correct it.

How to read the sources: (GO#5,1945,513PIR) is broken down as “GO” (General Order), “#” (Number 5, 1945), “513PIR” (513th Parachute Infantry Regiment).

Every effort has been made to minimize errors and misspelled names. An error may be attributable to the source document, or may have occurred while transcribing the names/units. Some of the original documents are of very poor print quality, making them difficult to decipher.
