This is a companion to the series of indices of general orders of all the divisions, corps, armies and commands of the US Army during WWII. Others will be published as they are completed. This work includes all US submariners lost to combat action during World War II. It also include the names of known submariners who were captured by the Japanese and those whose decorations were mentioned in United States Submarine Losses, World War II. United States Submarine Losses, World War II has been the best source for this information, however its arrangement makes it difficult to use. The names are listed by submarine, to which they were assigned. Because of its organization, United States Submarine Losses, World War II can be cumbersome to use. This index will enable the user to quickly identify these men without having to first know what submarine they were assigned to at the time of their loss. No attempt has been made to include those unfortunate submariners who lost their lives to non-combat operational loss. Likewise submariners who survived the loss of their submarine and where promptly recovered by allied forces are likewise not included. United States Submarine Losses, World War II includes brief histories of each submarine lost. Occasionally these histories note decorations earned, normally by the skipper, on pervious war patrols. When this occurs the information is included in this work. Every effort has been made to minimize errors and misspelled names. An error may be attributable to the source document, or may have occurred while transcribing the names/units. Corrections with supporting documentation can be sent to D-Day Militaria, at the address mentioned below.
