Why do some books state that some general orders are missing?
The archives rarely has a complete series of all the general orders issued by a command during a given period of time. These missing records may have never been turned over to the archives, or the could have been misfiled through the years, destroyed or even stolen. I explore as many logical alternative locations to attempt to locate the missing general orders, but there comes a time when to say this is good enough for now. I don't give up but I feel it is important to publish what I can find. Believe it of not but veterans have their copies of general orders tucked away, never knowing that they may have the only surviving copy of that particular document. So please if you have any general orders, please check to see if they one of the general orders that I have not bee able to locate as of yet. I will gladly reimburse anyone for photocopies of missing general orders.
